Since 2006 Flaggfabrikken is supported by the municipality of Bergen to host an international residency program. The first open call was made in spring that same year and was awarded to Nikolaj Callesen. It was a though decision with a lot of qualified applicants and we have chosen to dedicate an evening for a selection of the runner-ups:
Lilli Hartmann – video
Lindsay Seers – photography
Will Rogan – photography
Sefi Amir – painting
Mamoru Tsukada – photography
“Lindsay Seers’ work has evolved as an autobiographical and biographical narrative that relates her attemps to become a camera, her involment in ventriloquism and her most recent endeavour to become a projector. These becomings offer other ways of thinking about photography.”
Will Rogan: “I am interested in a beauty that already exist in the world, and not that I myself fabricate. For this reason all of the photographs are taken as is.”
Sefi Amir: “My paintings are narrative images based on a memory, a fantasy or an event from my life. These paintings explore my relationship to romantic love in my own life and in contemporary culture, be it in a very broad and tangential way.”
Lilli Hartmann: “My recent videos tell three different stories of a more or less fantastical nature, by looking towards a certain film genre. The way they are told, is by using just enough visual annd narrative elements,
to keep ones interest going but at the same time never allowing for a seductive unity to take place.”
Mamoru Tsukada: “I explore the “self” as a mediator between the transparent and the different to the realities revealed in photography. To expose the “self” to the world we live in, where multiple and diverse elements, including the invisible aspects, happen simultaneously.”
Arno Roncada: “Blind people interiors” is a photographic research into the interiors of congenially bling people who are living alone. “
